Sage Growth Advisors BBB Business Review

President and Founder

Born dirt poor in a small Mississippi town to a single mother working factory shifts, Debi Choi knows what it means to build something from scratch—with grit, heart, and just enough stubbornness to make it happen. After moving to Greenville, SC in 2013, she grew the firm she originally launched as Blue Ridge Business Services into Sage Growth Advisors—a heart-centered, compliance-first firm helping business owners clean up, scale up, and stay IRS-ready.

Debi fell in love with accounting over 30 years ago as an intern in Asheville, NC. Since then, she’s earned certifications in QuickBooks Online, forensic accounting, and business coaching, using her skills to guide clients through complex financial landscapes with clarity, structure, and zero shame.

Though she’s not a CPA, Debi brings decades of hands-on experience across multiple industries—supporting clients through IRS audits, federal and state compliance, and some of the trickiest financial cleanups out there. She’s mentored and coached CPAs, EAs, and firm owners nationwide and leads a private community of over 6,500 accounting professionals who trust her for her no-nonsense insight and supportive leadership.

When she’s not untangling a general ledger or plotting your next tax planning strategy, you’ll find Debi in the kitchen cooking comfort food, watching reality shows with her dog Brutus Beefcake Choi, or collecting hugs from her grandbabies. She's most at home with a cup of strong coffee, a fresh spreadsheet, and a business owner ready to do things right—with Sage by their side.

About Debi

Executive Administrator (a.k.a. Chaos Coordinator)

Desiree is the daughter of founder Debi Choi—and while she grew up answering phones, sorting checks, and filing paperwork back in the paper era, she swore she’d never join the family business. Spoiler alert: she caved. Turns out, Mom did know what she was doing.

Now affectionately known as our Chaos Coordinator, Desiree keeps the Sage team running like a well-oiled spreadsheet. She manages scheduling, onboarding, client relationships, and team operations—telling us where to be, when to be there, and how not to forget anything important (even when we try).

Outside the office, she’s a full-time dog mom to Pepper and Waffles, a bookworm with an ever-growing “to be read” stack, and a proud chicken wrangler. Her flock—especially Solar Nugget (SolNu) and CheeseQuake, the unofficial mascots—are known for pecking around and supervising morning meetings from the backyard.

She also has two cats who are morally opposed to productivity and often appear on Zoom calls to express their disapproval. We love her anyway, but not her cats.
